Pick the size class first
Tractor size is a ladder, and each step changes which implements you can run. Listings from dealers place sub-compact engines at about 15 to 25 HP, compact units at 15 to 60 HP and utility tractors at 40 to 100 HP or more. Our eight models are spread across that ladder.
| Class | Our models | Typical use | Lift at hitch (typical) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small family, 15-18 HP | 15/18 HP family tractor, 18 HP 4x4 mini tractor (600 kg) | Garden plots, orchard rows, light haulage | 300-600 kg |
| Compact 4WD, 25-100 HP | Compact 4WD tractor (1,400 kg, 70 L tank) | Mixed farms, rotary tillers, small seeders | 800-2,000 kg |
| Utility, 70-80 HP | 80 HP 4x4 (1,600 kg), 70 HP loader and digger | Ploughing, trailers, loader work | 2,000-2,500 kg |
| Large farm, 90-160 HP | 4x4 range, 90-160 HP, 116 kW 16F+16R (5,000 kg) | Deep ploughing, wide implements, contract work | 3,000-5,500 kg |
The lift figures are typical values for each class, not a promise for a specific unit; confirm for the model you pick.
Engine power is not implement power
A tractor loses part of its engine rating before the power reaches the PTO shaft, which is why dealer guides advise planning around PTO horsepower when you run tillers or mowers. Match three things before ordering: PTO speed (our small models list 540 rpm, the 116 kW unit 760 and 1,000 rpm, the compact 4WD 540 and 1,000 rpm), hitch category (category I on the smallest, II or III above) and hydraulic flow if you add a loader.
Loader, backhoe or crawler
Two models change the job description. The 4x4 loader-backhoe tractor weighs 2,744 kg with a four-cylinder diesel, and the 70 HP loader-and-digger unit is similar in idea: a farm needing trenches, silage clamps or yard work gets an earthmoving tool bundled in. For terraces, paddy edges and narrow orchard rows, the mini crawler tractor (25 or 35 HP, 650 kg, 10 km/h) spreads its weight on tracks and does tilling, trenching and weeding from one frame. If you also need a tiller, see Cultivators and Tillers.
Which drive and gearbox
- Gear drive with 8F+2R suits plain field work; 12F+12R or 16F+16R gives finer speed steps for tillage and spraying.
- Wet disc brakes (listed on the compact 4WD) matter on slopes and in mud.
- Electric start is listed on the 18 HP and 80 HP models; ask about starting on the smallest family tractor.
What to send for a quote
- Heaviest implement and its working width
- Soil, slope and field size
- Preferred power class and 2WD or 4WD
- Cab or canopy, tyre type (field, paddy, turf)
- Destination, quantity and whether a front loader is required
