Overview

What it is

This is a handheld metal detector built for gold prospecting. It works on the pulse induction principle: the coil sends out short bursts of current, and the detector listens for the response from metal targets in the ground. This method deals well with ground that is rich in minerals, which is typical of gold fields, where other types of detector can give false signals.

Built for the field

The unit weighs about 2.1 kg, and its shaft folds from about 155 cm to about 67 cm, so it fits in a pack or a vehicle. The search coil is waterproof down to 1 m, while the control box resists splashes and rain but must not be submerged. The unit works in temperatures from -10 to +50 C.

Coil choice

Three types of coil are offered: a monoloop, a double-D and an elliptical coil. A small coil is better for small gold in trashy ground, and a larger coil covers more ground and reaches deeper. The right coil depends on the size of gold and the type of ground you search. Regional packages differ in which coils come in the box.

What a detector cannot do

Depth and sensitivity depend on the soil, the size of the target, the coil and electrical noise nearby. We do not give one depth figure. A detector also does not replace geological survey work or mine safety equipment. Check the licensing and land rules for prospecting in your area before use.

Pulse induction in mineralized ground

Pulse induction detectors are used for gold in ground that confuses simpler detectors, such as red soil, wet sand and black sand. They send short pulses into the ground and listen for the return from metal, and they ignore most mineralization. That makes them better than very-low-frequency detectors for deep and small gold, but they cannot tell iron from gold, so you dig more junk. The coil options change the result: a monoloop gives depth, a double-D is steadier in rough ground, and an elliptical coil reaches into tight spots. At about 2.1 kg it can be swung through a full day. Choose this one for prospecting where soil is heavily mineralized. For coin or relic hunting in clean ground, a different detector costs less. It does not give ore grade; a lab test does.

Frequently asked questions

Which coil should I choose?

It depends on the size of the gold and the ground. Target size and soil type decide the coil set.

Can it be used in water?

The search coil is waterproof to 1 m, but the control box is not. Do not submerge the control box.

Does it find gold at a fixed depth?

No. Depth depends on the target, the soil and the coil, so we do not promise a fixed value.

Does it find gold underground at any depth?

No. Detection depth depends on target size, soil and coil. Small flakes are found close to the surface, and larger nuggets deeper.
