Overview

A set built for 50 Hz networks

This generator is specified for 380 V, 50 Hz at 1500 RPM, which matches the grid in most of Africa, the Middle East and Asia. That makes it a simple choice for a business there: no frequency conversion and no re-wiring of equipment.

Housing

Choose from open frame, silent canopy, trailer or container. Open frame is the lowest cost for a plant room. A silent canopy is for sites near people. A trailer makes it portable. A container type protects it outdoors and allows stacking for larger projects.

Engine and starting

The engine is water cooled and starts from a 24 V DC electric starter.

Current

The rated current depends on how the set is configured at the selected capacity, and the exact value is given on the electrical data sheet that comes with the quote.

Options

Housing type, fuel tank size, ATS or remote start, color and logo can be selected. Each set is tested before shipment and sent in a container or crate.

20 kVA versus the sets above and below it

This is our fixed-specification 50 Hz, 380 V set: three-phase, 1,500 rpm, 24 V electric start. That makes it simpler to specify than the 20–250 kVA range page, where voltage, speed and phase are selectable. It is the right size for the mid-size user: a small factory line with a few motors, a farm with irrigation pumps or a commercial building that needs backup for lifts and lighting.

Next to the 10 kVA super silent set for homes, it is about double the output and is built for three-phase motors. Next to the 50 kVA set for larger workshops, it is lighter and is normally delivered silent or open frame, whereas the 50 kVA set is more often supplied on wheels. A 20 kVA three-phase set carries about 16 kW, so it can start a 5.5 kW motor direct-on-line but may struggle with 7.5 kW; using a star-delta or soft starter helps. The largest motor and its starting method decide whether this size is enough.
