Overview

What it is

This is a portable bandsaw sawmill built on a trailer. A log is placed on the bed, clamped, and the saw head travels along it to cut boards, beams or planks. Because the bed is part of the trailer, the whole machine can be towed to the site, leveled on its supports and put to work without a fixed foundation.

Why mobile milling

Moving a log is often harder than moving the mill. With a trailer-mounted machine, a farm, forestry team or contract miller can cut timber at the place where the tree was felled, which saves handling and keeps the work close to the customer. A bandsaw blade also has a thin cut, so more of each log becomes usable timber than with a wider blade.

Configuration options

  • Bed length and the longest log you need to cut
  • Largest log diameter
  • Power: petrol, diesel or electric
  • Saw head feed and blade handling
  • Brake axle and lighting for towing, according to local road rules
  • Log loading and turning aids

Before you order

Trailer weight, tow vehicle, road registration and ground conditions at the work site all affect how the machine is used. Check the road rules of your country for towed equipment. Photos of machines on this page show the type of equipment; accessories shown are not necessarily included as standard.

Support

We supply operating guidance and a list of wear parts such as blades and guides to keep in stock, so that a blunt or broken blade does not stop your work.

Delivery

The machine ships with its trailer parts and loose items packed separately for container loading. We list blades, wrenches and the operator manual in the packing list so you can check them on arrival.

Compared with a fixed sawmill line

This mill travels to the logs. You tow it to the forest, a farm or a building site, level it with the stabilizing legs, and saw where the timber lies. Moving the saw is cheaper than hauling logs, which is why contractors, farmers and small timber businesses use this machine. A single person can run it, and two make it faster.

It does not replace a full sawmill line. A portable mill cuts one board at a time and needs a person to turn the log, so output is a few cubic meters a shift, not tens. If you plan to saw many logs every day in one place, a line with conveyors, edger and trimmer is a better investment. A portable mill is most useful for odd logs, hardwood beams, custom sizes and work in places with no road access. Add a log loader if you handle heavy logs, since lifting is the hardest part of the job.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use it without a concrete base?

Yes. It is designed to be leveled on its trailer supports on firm ground. The ground still needs to carry the machine and the logs.

Which options are standard?

Options differ by order and region. We list the exact bed, power and accessories in the quotation.

Do I need extra blades?

Yes. Bandsaw blades wear with use, and we recommend a stock of blades with the first order.

How long does a blade last?

A band blade usually cuts for a few hours before it needs sharpening, depending on the wood, bark and dirt on the log. Keep several blades and rotate them. A sharpener and setter pay back quickly.
