The smallest in the range

With a 7-9 HP engine and a weight of 80 kg, this is the lightest cultivator of our power-tiller group. One adult can lift it into a pickup and carry it between plots. It is a sensible first machine for a household or a small grower.

Tilling, plowing and loosening

Fit a rotary tiller for a seedbed, a plough for turning soil, or a loosening tool to break crust between crops. A seeder attachment is also available, which makes the same power unit useful at sowing time.

Size and handling

The machine measures 1,200 x 470 x 900 mm, narrow enough to walk between garden rows. Engine type can be gasoline or diesel; gasoline is lighter and cheaper to buy, diesel uses less fuel on longer working days.

Care of a small tiller

Check engine oil before each use, clean the air filter often in dusty soil, and wash soil from the tines after work to prevent rust. Store the machine under cover with a little fuel stabilizer if it will sit for weeks. These steps give a small engine many seasons of service.

Compared with the chain-rail tiller and diesel power tiller

At 80 kg and 7–9 HP, this is the lightest of the three tillers in the cultivator group and the easiest to carry and store. It is for light, general garden and small-farm work: home gardens, vegetable beds and small plots that you can work in a few hours, with either gasoline or diesel power.

The chain-rail mini tiller (MM-CRT9A) is also 7–9 HP, but weighs 100 kg and works 10–30 cm deep, so it suits deeper loosening, weeding between rows and greenhouse work, is easier to steer, and has optional electric start. The diesel two-wheel power tiller (MM-DRT35A) reaches 8–35 HP at 170 kg and handles paddy, dry land and heavier ground; it is the one to choose if you need to pull a trailer or plow heavy soil.

Choose this model if your main limit is transport, narrow access or storage space. If you cultivate more than about a hectare each season, a heavier machine will save time. Soil type and plot size decide the attachments.
