Tracked for rough terrain

A crawler undercarriage lets this rig climb out of ditches, cross rough ground and set up on slopes where wheeled rigs cannot go. It weighs 4,500 kg and measures 3,200 mm long, 1,450 mm wide and 2,050 mm high, a compact footprint for a rig with a 500 m depth rating. That makes it practical for mountain villages and mine roads.

DTH and full hydraulic drive

A down-the-hole hammer drills hard rock faster than a rotary bit. The full hydraulic drive handles rotation, feed and rig movement, which cuts the number of hand-operated controls. Hole diameters from 60 to 300 mm cover the common sizes for water wells and exploration holes.

Power and air supply

The power source, air compressor requirement and drilling parameters are specified for the job, because a DTH rig needs the right compressed air to reach its rated depth. A crawler DTH rig of this depth usually runs on a diesel engine with a separate compressor.

Where it fits

Crawler versus wheeled and top-drive rigs

The crawler undercarriage is the reason to choose this rig: it climbs hills and moves across mud or sand without a road. Our 300 m wheeled rig is for road-connected sites, and our 300 m top-drive rig is a heavier machine that is usually moved by truck. With a 60–300 mm hole range, a 500 m depth and a weight of 4,500 kg, this unit fills the gap for deep boreholes in hard rock where air drilling is the best method. Crawler rigs earn their keep in hills, riverbeds and farm tracks, where setting up a wheeled rig takes hours of road building. They move slowly, so carry the rig on a low-loader between distant sites. Air consumption sets the compressor you need, and hammers and bits are the main wear items. In dusty ground, water injection keeps the air clean for the crew.
