A potato crop depends on even spacing and depth of the seed tubers. By hand this is slow, and spacing varies. A planter holds the tubers in a hopper, drops them at a set spacing into an opened furrow, applies fertilizer and closes the row. The result is a more uniform crop and a much faster day’s work.

Four rows in one pass

This planter works four rows at once. Its frame is 2,380 mm long, 2,130 mm wide and 1,860 mm high, and it weighs 950 kg. The height allows a hopper large enough for continuous work between refills.

Drive and wear

A gear and gearbox drive turns the planting mechanism from the wheels. Bearings and gears are the main wear points, and we advise stocking spares.

Setup

Row spacing, in-row spacing range and tractor power depend on your fields. Row width and seed tuber size decide which cups or belts are supplied.

Tubers and ground

Plant uniformly sized seed tubers, since mixed sizes cause misses and doubles in any planter. Avoid planting into very wet or stony ground, which spoils furrow shape. Check the fertilizer is placed beside, not under, the tuber to prevent burning. Cup size is chosen for your seed grade.
