Overview

Why mechanical planting

Sugarcane is planted as cut stalks, which makes hand planting slow and labor heavy. A planter opens a furrow, lays the cane, adds fertilizer and covers it, so one tractor pass replaces a whole crew. That matters most where labor is scarce at planting time.

What the machine does

This is a two-row planter with a bearing-based drive, automatic fertilizing and soil covering. In one pass it opens the furrow, drops the cane sets, fertilizes and covers them. At 1,200 kg it is a heavy-framed machine, which helps it stay in the furrow in hard ground. It is meant for growers who plant cane every year and want to stop hand planting.

Matching the tractor

Working width, row spacing, cane hopper size and tractor power are matched to your row spacing and tractor model before the drawing and quote are issued. A tractor with enough power and a firm hitch is needed, and the furrow must be well prepared.

Field results

Planting depth, cane set spacing and cover depth affect germination. We set the machine for your variety and spacing, and our team can walk your operator through the adjustments.

Preparing for the season

Plan cane cutting and field layout before the planter arrives. Furrow depth, set overlap and fertilizer rate affect the stand, so run a short trial row and dig up a few meters to check. We recommend spare bearings and a set of wear parts for the first season, and our engineers can answer setup questions before your first planting day.

Ordering

Our engineers prepare a quotation based on your site, the work you need done and your shipping port.

Compared with the other planters

The 4-row potato planter (MM-PTP4A) at 950 kg handles tubers with a similar furrow-and-cover process but uses a different metering mechanism. The 5-row garlic planter (MM-GLP5A) at 95 kg is a small machine for cloves. The seed drills (MM-NTS16A and MM-SBP18A) and vegetable seeder (MM-VSD100A) sow small or round seed and cannot place cane.

Choose the sugarcane planter if you farm cane on level or gently sloping land.

Frequently asked questions

Does it apply fertilizer?

Yes, fertilizing and soil covering are part of the machine.

What tractor do I need?

It depends on the row spacing and ground conditions. The machine weighs 1,200 kg.

Can it plant whole stalks or billets?

The feeding method depends on how you handle cane.

Do I need to cut the cane first?

Most planters need cane cut into sets with buds before loading. We can advise on a billet cutter if you want to mechanize that step too.
