Eighteen rows in one pass covers a lot of ground, so this planter is aimed at large farms and contractors with a strong tractor. It is intended for a large tractor, in the 200 HP class; the exact match depends on your tractor model.

Frame

The frame is 2,750 mm wide and 1,650 mm long, and weighs 390 kg. The weight is modest for the width, which keeps the load on the three-point linkage reasonable. For hard soil or heavy residue, extra weight or different openers may be needed.

Field preparation and speed

Wide planters give their best results on level, residue-managed fields. Keep travel speed within the range recommended for the metering unit, since high speed spoils spacing. Check that all 18 rows run at the same depth after the first pass. We provide a set-up sheet with the order so your operator can calibrate the machine before the season starts.

How the 18-row soybean planter differs from the seed drill

The 18-row planter is for broadacre sowing of soybean and similar seed crops at a width of 2,750 mm with a 390 kg frame. It uses many narrow rows to speed up sowing and get early canopy cover, and it mounts on a large tractor.

The 16-row no-till alfalfa drill (MM-NTS16A) has a 2.2 m width with 150 mm spacing and a 112 L fertilizer tank for forage crops. The precision vegetable seeder (MM-VSD100A) is for small seed at 5 cm row spacing. The potato, garlic and sugarcane planters (MM-PTP4A, MM-GLP5A and MM-SCP2A) handle sets and bulbs.
