Overview

Made for blast holes, not water wells

This rig drills shallow, wide holes in rock for explosives. The maximum depth is 30 m and the hole diameters are 200 and 250 mm. A diesel engine drives the hydraulic system, so the rig works at the bench with no power line. Rotary speed from 0 to 120 r/min is adjustable for different rock types.

Drill pipe and handling

The drill pipe is 76 mm in diameter and 3,000 mm long. Pipes of 3 m are heavy enough to need a rig-mounted handling arrangement, so crews add rods with the feed, not by hand. The complete machine is 6,000 mm long, 2,270 mm wide and 2,600 mm high and weighs 6,200 kg.

Hole size

The hole diameters are 200 and 250 mm; choose the hole size you need before ordering. Bit size, air compressor requirement and drilling speed follow from that choice.

When to choose another rig

For water wells and deep boreholes, our 200 m, 300 m or crawler DTH rigs are the right choice. For quarry work where you want a tracked, self-propelled platform, ask us about a crawler build; this model is the wheeled, shallow-hole option.

Blast-hole rig, not a water well rig

This is the rig in our drilling group that is built for one job: drilling holes to be loaded with explosive. It is a DTH machine, which means compressed air drives a hammer at the bottom of the hole, so it drills fast in hard rock but needs an external air compressor. A water well rig uses a rotary head and mud flushing, which is slower in hard rock but gives deeper holes. With a 30 m depth, 200–250 mm hole size and 6,200 kg weight, this unit fits benches in quarries and open-pit mines. Our 500 m crawler DTH rig is for water wells and boreholes, not for bench blasting. Choose this one when pattern drilling is the work.

Frequently asked questions

Does the rig include an air compressor?

No compressor is built in; the rig runs on an external air compressor, specified for your hole size and rock.

What hole size is standard?

The hole sizes are 200 and 250 mm. Bit options follow the size you choose.

Is it self-propelled?

The carrier and travel arrangement are given in the quotation.

How much compressor do I need?

The compressor must supply the air pressure and volume that your chosen hammer needs.
