Overview

Forage, not grain

A silage harvester takes the whole plant. It cuts the stalks, chops them into short pieces and throws them into a trailer that drives alongside. The chopped crop is packed into a pit or bag and ferments into silage, a reliable winter feed for cattle.

The machine

With a 2,400 mm working width and row distance from 450 to 700 mm, it adapts to the usual corn row spacings. The overall size is 3,900 x 2,600 x 4,200 mm and the weight is 3,000 kg. Gear drive, an engine and a PLC control are included in the core components.

Practical points

A self-propelled design means you do not need a large tractor to pull it. Chop length and kernel processing can be set to suit your herd.

Who it suits

Choose it when you make silage for your own livestock or sell forage to neighbors. For grain corn, look at our combine harvesters.

Harvest timing and chop

Silage quality depends on cutting at the correct moisture and stage. Set the chop length to suit your animals and packing method, and process kernels if your feeding program needs it. Knives must be kept sharp for a clean cut, so plan time for sharpening. We can discuss knife sets and spares with the order.

Specification

A specification sheet is approved before any order is placed, so that what we build matches what you expect.

How a silage harvester differs from a grain combine

This harvester chops the whole plant for silage and loads it on a trailer, so it does not thresh grain. Its 2,400 mm working width and 450–700 mm row distance suit dairy and beef farms that make silage for the winter and need fast, steady chopping.

Our 5-row and 6-row corn combines (MM-SCH5A and MM-LCH240A) strip grain from the cob and are meant for grain markets. The tractor-mounted 2–3 row corn harvester (MM-MCH12A) and single-row mini corn harvester (MM-SRC1A) pick ears or crush straw and are for small acreage. Choose this machine if you need chopped forage.

Quality depends on chop length and kernel damage, so consider a kernel processor if you feed energy-rich maize silage. Plan trailer logistics too, because a full harvester needs trucks ready at the field edge. We help you set knife and feed settings for your crop moisture.

Frequently asked questions

Can it harvest grain corn?

It is built for silage and green fodder. For grain use a combine.

Do I need a tractor?

It is self-propelled. You need a tractor and trailer to receive the chopped crop.

Can chop length be set?

Chop length is set to suit your feeding system.

What chop length can I set?

Chop length is set by the knife drum and feed rolls. Your feed and silo type decide the range and whether you need a processor.
