Overview
What mulch film does
Mulch film is laid over the soil of a planting bed, with holes for the plants. It cuts down evaporation, limits weed growth and keeps soil temperature steadier. On a drip-irrigated bed, water goes where the crop needs it instead of into bare ground.
Black film
Black film blocks sunlight at the soil surface, so weeds under it cannot grow. It also absorbs heat and warms the soil, which helps in cool seasons. It is the common choice for vegetables.
Two-tone film
Two-tone film has a different color on each face. Laid with the lighter side up, it reflects light and keeps the soil cooler, which helps in hot seasons and can brighten the canopy; the dark side down keeps weeds in check. We offer black-white and black-silver.
Surface and thickness
We produce smooth blown film and embossed cast film. The embossed surface gives more grip for laying machines and a different feel on the bed. Width and thickness depend on the bed layout, the crop season and how the film is laid, so they are made to order instead of listed as one fixed size.
Where it is used
Vegetables, flowers, orchards, berry crops and any field with drip irrigation. Choose color and thickness according to the crop, soil temperature and season.
End of season
Film has to be collected and handled properly after the season. Plan how it will be removed or recycled in your area, since that affects which film suits.
Options
- Color and surface pattern
- Roll width, thickness and length
- Core size and packing
Packing
Rolls are wrapped against dust and moisture and loaded on pallets or loose to suit the container. Rolls can be packed to a weight your crew can lift and to the core size of your laying machine.
How to choose between mulch colors and film types
Choose the color by the job you need done. Black film blocks light, so it is the first choice for weed control and to warm the soil in cool seasons. Black-white (white side up) reflects light and keeps the soil cooler, which suits hot-season transplanting. Black-silver also reflects sunlight and is often used where insect pressure is a concern.
Smooth blown film is the usual low-cost route and works well with hand laying. Embossed cast film has a textured surface that grips the bed and handles machine laying a little better. Thickness is a trade-off: thinner film costs less per hectare and suits a single short crop, thicker film tears less in wind and handling and may survive a second cycle.
This is different from our air-bubble greenhouse film (MM-GBF01), which covers the structure, not the ground. Width and thickness are set to match your crop, bed width and laying method.

Frequently asked questions
Which color should I choose?
Black suits weed control and cool seasons. Two-tone suits hot seasons. The right choice also depends on your crop and climate.
Can you supply it for machine laying?
Yes. Roll dimensions are matched to the laying machine.
How thick is the film?
Thickness is made to order for the crop and season. It is stated in the quote.
How do I match film width to my bed?
Add roughly 15–20 cm on each side of the bed for burying the film edges, then round up to a standard width. Bed width and laying machine then set the roll size.
